Frequently Asked Questions

Come ride, run or walk with family and friends along some of Greater Hartford’s most scenic roads.  It’s a great day– and a great event–in which campers and participants alike are all winners!

Am I required to wear a helmet during the ride?  Yes, all riders must wear a helmet and obey all rules of the road while cycling. Riders should also carry their cell phones – just in case.

Can children participate in the Tour?  The Tour is open to riders, runners or walkers of all ages. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 18 must have their parent’s signed consent to participate.

Will the Tour take place if it rains?  Yes, the Tour will take place rain or shine.

What time do I have to be at the starting point?  Each route begins at a different time.   Please refer to the “At a Glance page”; Note: participants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of their ride.

Will bike mechanics be available during the ride?  Yes, our sponsor, xxxxxxx, will provide mechanical assistance to cyclists en route as well as at the start/finish line.

Will there be rest stops with food, water and restrooms?  Yes!  Every route has at least one rest stops along the way.  The rest stops are staffed by volunteers who’ll have has snacks, drinks and direct you to nearby bathroom facilities available for riders.

How much does it cost to participate in the Tour?  The registration fee for adults is $54 per rider. The registration fee for children 13 – 18 is $36. The Registration fee for children under 13 is $18. Registration fees are capped at $126/family. Participants are encouraged to help raise funds for the camps’ Tikvah and Chazak programs by soliciting sponsors for their ride / run / walk.  The registration fee will be waived any participant who raises and collect at least $180.

How will the financial contributions to the Tour be spent?  All contributions (registration fees, sponsor contributions) directly benefit the Tikvah and Chazak programs for campers with special needs.  Every dollar raised will help enable these children to experience all of the joys of a Jewish summer camping experience –swimming, boating, sports and the arts–while bridging the gap between camp tuition’s and the actual costs of operating the camps. Contributions are tax deductible. Registration fees and donations are due on or before event day. All checks should be made payable to FJMC.

Can I participate even if I’m not riding?  Absolutely.  There are many ways to be part of the Tour de Shuls community even if you’re not riding yourself.  Be an event sponsor. Support another rider.  Volunteer.  Or just make a donation. 

What does it mean to be a Virtual participant?   Virtual riders have all of the responsibilities and benefits of participating in the Tour without any of the muscle aches.  That’s because there’s no riding or walking involved, just fundraising. Virtual participants join in the fun like riders / runners/ walkers – they register; they get family and friends involved as sponsors for their virtual “ride.”
